Located in South America, The Republic of Ecuador is home to four world heritage sites, two natural: The Galapagos Islands and Sangay National Park, and two cultural: Guayaquil and Quito (its capital). Despite the reverence for Ecuador’s past, today over 35% of its population live below the poverty line and 23% of children under the age of 5 are malnourished. The situation is further aggravated by ill-equipped hospitals and lack of access to potable water.
